History Of The Patch
St. Martin of Tours is the patron saint of the town from the 7th century. When initially designing the patch, it was steeped in meaning that has been forgotten over time. St. Martin was born in Siberia on Nov. 11th, 316. He was transferred with his father to Amiens in Gaol. He was standing sentry at the gates of the city when a beggar approached that was half naked and freezing. St. Martin tore his cloak in half and gave the man the other half. This is the first in a long list of good deeds that he committed in his lifetime. This where the significance of our patch begins. Its significance is to remind us that we are there for those that are in their darkest hour. When people call 911, we will be there to help them get through their darkest hour. We are their lifeline. When you look at that patch, remember that is our mission to help our citizens in their darkest hour. Green and gold are the colors of Dover, England, the man on horseback is St. Martin, and the man standing next to him is the beggar.
