Residential Structure Fire – Dover Twp

Around 0230hrs DTFD was dispatched to a reported structure fire on the 3700 block of W Canal Rd in Dover Twp. While responding, Deputy Chief Glenn Jansen could see heavy smoke in the area and called for a working fire. On Arrival crews were faced with heavy fire in the rear of the structure. Engine 9-1′s crew attacked the fire from the outside briefly then made an aggressive interior attack. 9-1′s crew was then forced to back out due to a live power line and lack of water due to no hydrants in the area. Crews were then forced to go defensive and fight the fire using master streams. The fire is thought to have started from a wood stove that the home owner installed and was testing. Several family pets died in the fire. Multiple other fire departments assisted.

4 Calls on Monday, Including an Accident with Entrapment

The first call was at 03:49 hrs for an accident with no injuries involving a deer. In Dover Township, Rescue 9 was on scene for about 30 minutes.

Second call was for a two car accident with entrapment in Dover Township around 1400 hrs on South Salem Church Rd. Rescue 9 arrived on scene to find 2 patients trapped and 2 patients that were not trapped but needed medical attention. The Driver of the mini was trapped by the dash that was pushed down on her, crews had the pop the door off and push the dash off of her with hydraulic tools in 6 minutes after arrival, The patient was rushed to York Hospital and is in ICU at this time. The Driver of the pick up truck was able to be freed using a halligan bar, and was rushed to York Hospital. The other 2 patients were transported to local hospitals. Rescue 5, Engine 9-2, Dover EMS, Manchester Township EMS, Grantley EMS, East Berlin Borough EMS, and Medics from 102 and 97 also assisted at the scene. Rescue 9 was released from the scene at 1501 hrs for another accident at Wynnefield Rd and Canal Rd. Engine 9-2 was on scene until 1525.

Rescue 9 and Engine 6-2 were dispatched at 1525hrs to a reported accident at Wynnefield Rd and Canal Rd. Crews arrived to find one patient laying in the grass complaining of neck, back, and shoulder pain. Crews packaged and treated the patient until Dover ambulance arrived. The person involved in the accident refused treatment. Crews were on scene until 1534 hrs.

At 1542 hrs Engine 9-2 and Rescue 9 were dispatched to an automatic fire alarm at the 3700 block of Kimberly Rd. Crews arrived to find an unoccupied structure with an audible alarm sounding. No problems were found and both units went into service at 1538.

3 Alarm Residential Structure Fire with Entrapment – Manchester Twp

At 0130 hrs DTFD was dispatched to a working townhouse fire at 717 Cedar Village Dr in Manchester Twp. Engine 9-1 responded and provided a crew for RIT. Shortly after the crew established RIT, a crew of two firefighters were operating on a balcony on division 2 side A of the structure. The balcony collapsed and a mayday was declared. Engine 9-1′s RIT team was immediately activated and dug through the debris to find the firefighters that had collapsed. The firefighters were ok, one firefighter suffered a sprained wrist. Engine 9-1 was on scene for about 3 hours.

The Manchester Township Fire Department was dispatched around 0130 hrs for a reported structure fire with possible people trapped at 717 Cedar Village Dr. YCDES advised that people were jumping from a 2nd floor balcony. Deputy Chief 24 called for a 2nd alarm. Manchester Twp units arrived on scene to find the structure well involved and immediately made an aggressive interior attack, while other units from 24 searched the side B exposure. Crews found a 4 year old boy in the exposure on the 1st floor. The boy was unharmed. All residents from the original fire building including 2 adults and an infant were able to escape from the 2nd floor balcony thanks to the help of a neighbor. The fire was held to the first 3 units. It was later found that the original fire building had a one smoke detector but the battery was taken out.
